Born Again Christian – my true allegiance is not of this world and my faith informs everything that I do.
Alaskan – that comes a long time before any warm fuzzy feelings about America. I’ll vote for my state’s interests over the country’s interest every time.
Wife, mother, sister, friend, full-time employee, neighbor, concerned citizen
Limited-government Conservative constitutionalist “tea partier” with libertarian and anarchist leanings
I read: history, political science, economics,
I’m an American mutt, as proud of my Swedish and Irish ethnicity as my American Indian ethnicity. I qualify for BIA benefits, but I’ve never taken them. I believe we would be a post-racial society if people of race (including me) would stop talking about race.
Federalist – politically my first allegiance is to Alaska, not the United States. If our common interests coincide that’s lovely, but if the federal government wants to push Alaska … or any other state … around, I think we the people should demand our employees stop that.
Non-partisan – I’ve never belonged to a political party, though I’ve voted in every election local through national since I was 18. The two major parties exist for their own ends as power brokers for themselves. The Republican Party long ago ceased to represent or respect the principles that motivate the majority of American conservatives. If a true conservative third party develops, I might become a partisan. Maybe.
I am SO GLAD I found your blog site. I enjoyed everything I read. I blog on art and religion, but have an avid interest in politics and history as well. I’ll look forward to reading your posts and taking comfort that we conservatives here in South Texas are not the only ones remaining in the world.

Welcome, Rayla-Jeanne. I love that you combine faith and art as one. As a writer, I believe our art is only strengthened by our relationship with Jesus Christ. For far too long, Christians have let the world have that venue and it’s time we took it back.

Welcome, Sebastian. I’m somewhat limited on my time these days because my lap top had an accident and the family computer is shared, but I will stop by as I have time. And, I appreciate the visit.

Growing up in Alaska during the D2 lands controversy and being raised by parents who voted against statehood has a lot to do with my political philosophy. I’m enjoying the conversation.

I’m guessing with that information your parents are also from Alaska?

No, but they chose to live here. Alaskans aren’t usually born and raised here, although native Alaskans are a growing population. Dad was from the Pacific Northwest and Mom was from North Dakota. They came here separately, fell in love with the lifestyle of relative anarchy and stayed. They’d be upset to see what is happening now because of federal encroachment. Even our governor is beginning to rethink statehood.

I must say I never travel toward Alaska, I taught about few times but never quite made there. So what the lifetyle there?

Outdoorsy. We have a lot of pretty well-educated people, many of whom are self-educated. Long winters give us lots of time to read. It’s live and let live. Debate is common, disagreements are accepted. But our state government is pretty socialist. We’re the only state in the union where people cannot own their own mineral rights — it’s all owned by the state government. That was decided by the US Congress. Most Alaskans would prefer another system.

Hello! I also wandered over from Harsh Reality, and I know you mentioned interviews in your comments. I’m an editor for an annual anthology of short stories with a deadline coming up in October, and I’d love to spread the word a little further through something like an interview or a feature. I wasn’t sure how best to contact you, but, if you’re interested, drop me an email at ellis.engler@gmail.com and maybe we can set something up. I’d love to get the news spread to wider variety of writers and readers if I could.
