Although I always suspect in situations like this that the cop did something that set off the citizen (because their authoritarianism makes citizens feel like slaves and slaves rebel), I want to highlight that an armed citizen saved a cop’s life.
Synopsis – On a remote highway near Phoenix, an Arizona state trooper stopped to help at a car wreck. A man supposedly ambushed, shot and wounded him and was bashing the officer’s head against the pavement when a passing driver shot the perpetrator to death.
“My trooper would not be alive without his assistance,” Department of Public Safety Director Ralph Milstead said of the good Samaritan who stopped.
It is suspected that the man who shot the officer was driving the car that crash. A women was ejected from the wreck and died at the scene. Because the officer was severely injured and two of the others involved in the incident, actual details are sketchy. Another driver reported gunfire and a second trooper responded. Arizona police officials say the trooper was ambushed.
Apparently, the passerby asked permission to help the cop, the cop (who was being beaten at this point) gave it and the armed man gave the assailant an opportunity to stop the attack before he shot him.
Yeah, that sounds way to civilized for me. But the point is that once again an armed citizen prevented a larger tragedy.
