Looking at Alaska’s Senate Race 2014   Leave a comment

Alaska is a weird place politically, socially, economically, historically, culturally. We may be one of the 50 united, but we are every bit as divergent from the Lower 48 as Hawaii or Puerto Rico. I suppose I should start examining some of the circumstances that make us odd. Don over on Rio Norte Line asked me if I was going to support Joe Miller for Senate in 2014 and my answer is …

The primary is a year away. The filing deadline hasn’t passed yet. I’ve made no decisions as yet. I can’t stand Mark Begich, so I probably won’t vote for him. I don’t want another Lisa Murkowski in the seat. I like Joe Miller, but I don’t think he’s owed the seat just because he almost won against Lisa in 2010. I also like Lt. Governor Mead Treadwell who has also announced his candidacy. I’m a non-partisan, so it is not a foregone conclusion that I will vote Republican, though I probably will vote in the GOP primary. I usually do and then, if I don’t like the candidates, I vote Alaska Independence Party in protest or, occasionally, because their candidate is a better choice.

So, I’m going to do something here that I’ve only done with my husband and kids before. I’m going to start examining the candidates and issues that pertain to the 2014 U.S. Senate race in Alaska. I do that every election, but this time, I’m going to share it with you.

And, I’m going to create a page so my research will be easily accessible.
